The latest addition to my dental hardware is a set of lugs: pointy things on which the surgeon will attach rubber bands that will keep my jaws in place after he moves them.
Today, the helpful ortho tech who put on my lugs and the extra steel wires that provide additional support showed me one of the bands. I asked because, apparently, I'll have to take them off and put them back on for cleaning. When I first heard about the bands, imagined (did I mention that I'm a worrier?) these industrial strength loops of rubber. Actually, they're pretty small and very pliable. I shouldn't have a problem.
Tomorrow is my last pre-op visit to the surgeon's office in Chapel Hill. They'll probably take one last set of impressions to make the final model of my jaws. Other than checking into the hospital early next Tuesday morning, that'll be the last step before the big break.
